Who this pathway is for
Clarity & Guidance
If you’ve been told you have a thyroid nodule — or you’ve noticed a lump in your neck — this pathway is designed to get you clarity quickly and comfortably.
Common reasons for referral
- Thyroid lump or swelling
- Thyroid nodule found incidentally on other imaging
- Follow-up of a known thyroid nodule
- Thyroiditis concerns
- Neck lymph nodes / salivary gland concerns (when relevant)
How the Fast-Track works
What to expect
-
Step 1 — Specialist thyroid ultrasound
A meticulous ultrasound assessment of the thyroid (and relevant neck structures when needed), with careful measurement and feature analysis. -
Step 2 — Risk assessment & clear recommendation
You’ll receive a structured conclusion with a clear next step:
• Surveillance/follow-up interval (when safe), or
• Biopsy recommended (when indicated) -
Step 3 — Biopsy when indicated (same-day when possible)
When a biopsy is clinically indicated, we aim to perform it immediately after the scan when a procedure slot is available. If not, we fast-track the earliest suitable biopsy booking. -
Procedures offered when appropriate:
Ultrasound-guided Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA / FNAB) Core biopsy Cyst aspiration Alcohol ablation for suitable cysts/neck masses
Same-day biopsy: what to expect
If biopsy is recommended on the day, we will:
- Explain the finding and the reason for biopsy
- Confirm biopsy readiness (clinical factors and time availability)
- Perform the procedure under ultrasound guidance for accuracy and comfort
- If same-day biopsy isn’t available, you still leave with a clear plan and we arrange the earliest suitable biopsy slot.
Results and next steps
What to expect
- Your imaging report is sent to your referring doctor.
